In connection with the 17 sustainable development goals, Ikast/Brande commune launched an juried open call for 17 artist to work with one of the 17 goals and make a mural for 17 citites throughout central Jutland. Nina K Ekman has been selected to make the mural in Brande with the world goals: industry, innovation and infrastructure.

Together with Brande’s population, Ekman will make a mural solely with deadstock yarn from the textile industry or surplus yarn from the population in Brande. Ekman will make oversized plants from warmer climates, symbolizing the duality that lies in resp. the incredible strength and amazing infrastructure of nature and the fragility of individual plant species to human influence. The Danish flora is changing as the climate warms and the large exotic plants remind us that the future will look different.

The mural, Plant takeover and is partly made from thousands of knitted and crocheted cloths made by the local community sown together with tufted elements by Nina K Ekman. The inauguration is the 25th of June 2022.
